1- Be Careful With Pet Hair and Fur
Although it may not look like it, your pets are constantly shedding. This is especially true for pets that are bathed in the tub. Keep the fur from going down your drains by placing a strainer over the drain. Hair and fur getting stuck in your drain can cause clogs, odors, slow drains, and backups.
2- Keep the Toilet Lid Closed
Have you ever found your pet drinking from the toilet bowl? If so, we suggest that you and everyone else in your household start closing the lid. It may not be harmful to your plumbing system, but it is very dangerous for your animals. When you use cleaners and chemicals to keep your toilet clean, the residue left behind can be very toxic to ingest.
3- Never Flush Kitty Litter
There are plenty of cat products that say they can be flushed. Don’t believe that. Sending cat litter down the drain will almost certainly cause a clog. Even the “toilet-safe” products can build up easily, and will eventually lead to cracks. Always throw old litter in the trash and never ever in the toilet.
4- Keep Your Dog From Digging Too Deep
Water and sewage system lines aren’t always buried deep underground. If your dog likes digging holes in your yard, make sure that they don’t end up going too deep. This can possibly create holes in your water or sewer line. Holes can cause some serious damage and may result in flooding in your home and even hurt your pet.
5- Leave Plenty of Water Out
When your pet runs out of water they may go to extremes to find some. Some intelligent pets can turn on faucets. This could potentially flood your house or increase your water bill. Leave plenty of fresh water out for your pets so that they don’t have to go looking for it themselves.
